Oh! The Irony!

What Goes Around ------ Comes Around

It was an interesting County Commission Meeting on August 17, 2010, when the agenda item for Zoning Requests was ready to be discussed. What was so interesting is the fact that one of the Commissioners representing the Seymour 9th. District couldn’t get the Commission to vote against a zoning change request near her residence.

Residents in the North Knob Creek area and surrounding sub divisions have had the same experience more than once. These citizens have had several requests of the County Commission and of the 9th District Commissioners particularly. One request was about the property given to the county and then leased to an individual for a ball park WITHOUT ANYONE IN THE AREA knowing about the transaction or the intended purpose for the property.

Several complaints have been made about the Zoning Process in this area. Just as the Commissioner stated at the meeting –“the land in question was posted in an area where the posting was never seen by her or any of the residents to be affected by the zoning change”. Then the question of published notice was mentioned. “Not everyone (in fact very few) in Seymour reads The Mountain Press.”

These are the same complaints from citizens in Seymour about the same type of issues that were ignored by Commissioners, when zoning changes along North Knob Creek Road happened almost overnight. Changes that residents in the area did not want!

This is one issue among many that Need to Change!!

The County Commission should require that any and all Public Notices be given in The Seymour Herald, South Knoxville/Seymour Times, and the Tri-County News, and on the Sevier County web site as well as The Mountain Press. Posting should be placed in more than one place when rezoning is requested.

ABOVE ALL ----- WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH HAVING A SECOND READING BEFORE THE COMMISSION VOTES ON THESE ISSUES? THIS WOULD GIVE CITIZENS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET AND GIVE INFORMATION SO AN INFORMED DECISION COULD BE MADE THAT WAS FAIR TO ALL INVOLVED.

Is it because a favor couldn’t be made for a builder or a pay back to a special friend? A phone call couldn’t be made to get something published that is not an adequate notice, according to the Open Meetings Act? Is it because the County Government wants as few citizens as possible to know what is happening in our fair county?

DOES BEHIND THE BACK AND UNDER THE TABLE DEALS AND UNINFORMED CITIZENS MAKE THE DYNASTY EASIER TO RULE?

What Goes Around --------------------------------- Will Come Around
