I Want Rock!

1. The driver works for the county (you).  The road superintendent is his supervisor.

2. The truck belongs to the county (you).

3. The fuel in the truck was paid for with tax money (yours).

4. The rock was crushed in the county’s quarry.  Yes, the county has its own quarry.  There is no longer a real need to maintain a quarry as most all county roads are surface.

5. The rock is loaded by the county loader (yours).

6. Some drivers charge to haul a load of rock; as much as $50 and as little as $10.  It depends on what other gratuity the driver receives.

7. One driver would not haul a load of rocks to his own fellow workers without charging them $20.

8. If you haven’t bought a load of rock lately, the cost would be $15 per ton for the rock and as much as $100 for the haul charge.  A dump truck full could run close to $300.

9. This continues to go on in our county as I write this.

10. This is against the LAW!!!

Crimes have been committed and are ignored.  These crimes are committed by public officials.  When complained about to the district attorney, the person who took an oath to uphold Tennessee state laws,  and other law enforcement officials, they just cover it up.

Some people are being told by their county commissioners that they cannot get them a load of rock right now because of a certain county commissioner.  I ask you, is it the role of any county official/employee to give away county material and labor?  Do you agree that the law is being broken?

I ask all county commissioners who do NOT call and get rock hauled:  IS THIS FAIR TO YOU OR ANY CITIZEN THAT SOME COMMISSIONERS USE THE COUNTY AS A TOOL TO GET RE-ELECTED?

For the people who have never gotten or even thought that they could get a load of rock delivered from the county, IS THIS FAIR?

What message do we send to the citizens that do not have connections to ask for a load of free gravel?  Should we give them a check for $300?

Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) 54-7-206 states

For years in Sevier County, gravel has been used for political favors.  These favors are used like a tool to obtain votes.  When not being used for political reasons, the gravel is just STOLEN from Sevier County and even stockpiled for later use.  This is done at locations around the county by those on the “in” with the road superintendent holding office today.

I have observed  this activity.  All of this is done under the assumption that the county either “owes” the person who is the recipient because they pay taxes or they just know someone who can get a load of rock by making a phone call.

I have also been informed on one particular load of rock hauled by the Sevier County Electric System that did appear to be used by a private person employed at the electric company.  Do you wonder if that same person paid for the culvert tile that was on top of the gravel in that truck, or was it, like the rock, paid for with public funds.  This truck is driven most of the time by one man who had some gravel delivered to the new house he is building for his daughter.  That person, like many others, pretends to be a pillar in the community.  In fact, he is no more than a common thief.

Did you know that two red ford tandem county trucks haul large rock from the county quarry to McCroskey Island?  If you didn’t know, that is where the city of Sevierville’s sewer plant is located.  Do you wonder if the city paid for this or was it simply political favors?  Who does Sevierville Alderman Claude Owenby work for, you ask?  The county road department—how convenient.

One would think that in the Year of Our Lord 2009, that we would have elected officials and law enforcement agencies that should and could follow the laws of the state of Tennessee.  It sure looks that maybe we should elect someone that will follow the law or just maybe a few rules.

If you have knowledge or have observed anything like I have described on this page (even if you live between Sevier County and Hancock county) please!
